Overview
Life's different after the Kimberley Coast
A ‘trip down the coast’ takes on new meaning after adventuring to the spectacular Kimberley coast and the Rowley Shoals. Beginning with layers of ancient geology before witnessing vibrant colours of a coral wonderland, you’ll be immersed, seeing all of the coastal icons in one of the world’s most rare habitats.
Please note: This is a sample itinerary only. Prevailing conditions, local arrangements and indeed, what we discover on the day, may cause variation. Helicopter flights can be purchased additional to the indicated tariff as a package or individually. Please refer to the Departure Dates to determine if this itinerary is available on the True North or True North II.
ITINERARY
Welcome Aboard
Join our coach transfer in Kununurra before arriving in Wyndham to board the magnificent True North and enjoy the luxuries of our renowned galley. From there, we’ll overnight steam to the King George River.
Buccaneer Archipelago
Here we’ll, visit the region’s collection of over 800 islands. Known for its rich biodiversity, mangroves and white sandy beaches providing a sanctuary to an array of wildlife. We’ll also offer stunning scenic flights over the region and that includes flying over the famous Horizontal Falls. Along with fishing and sightseeing tours with the ship’s naturalists.
Eagle Falls
In the morning we’ll bushwalk to see the Gwion Gwion, also known as “Bradshaw” - ancient rock art that could possibly be the oldest ‘paintings’ known to man. Then, fish for mackerel in Vansittart Bay, helicopter to Eagle Falls, enjoy picnic lunch amidst breathtaking scenery, and tender to local beaches and rivers.
The Mitchell River
Today, we’ll head up river to the scenic Surveyors Creek. Here you’ll join the hunt for barramundi or helicopter over the ancient land towards the Mitchell Falls. Then, join us for our pearl and diamond party. Here you’ll enjoy a glass of bubbly whilst trying on exquisite pieces created by the artistes at Allure, Jewels of the Kimberley and Kimberley Fine Diamonds.
The Hunter River
Wake up in the magnificent Hunter River for fishing, mud-crabbing, bird-watching and exploring. Then enjoy a exhilarating hike to Jackson Falls before seeing even more splendour from the helicopter. In the afternoon, we’ll sail into Prince Frederick harbour and enjoy sunset drinks on picturesque Crystal Beach.
The Prince Regent Falls
Wake up to come on an early morning fishing expedition, or join the ship’s naturalist in one of the adventure boats – all before a breathtaking True North heli picnic.
King Cascade
Here you’ll be able to indulge in not-to-be-missed fishing spots at the majestic Prince Regent River along with an unforgettable experience at King Cascade as we’ll manoeuvre the True North right under the falls. Then you can either tender and hike to another picture perfect billabong for an afternoon swim, or you can venture further upriver to visit the spectacular ‘Amphitheatre’ waterfall.
Montgomery Reef
Today, you’ll have the chance to rise at dawn to catch barramundi at “Three Ways”, followed by a bush walk to Ruby Falls and swim in it’s refreshing large natural rock pool. Then take-off on a heli fishing adventure to a secret-spot. Lunch will be served as we weigh anchor and cruise to another Kimberley icon – Montgomery Reef. Here, you’ll witness a spectacular 140 square miles of coral reef that rises right out of the ocean, home to turtles, dugong, crocodiles and a whole world of spectacular sea creatures.
Talbot Bay
Start the day by exploring the spectacular Yampi Sound and get the chance to sight-cast ravenous barramundi. Jacks, fingermark and threadfin will also be on the list before returning to the True North for our overnight cruise to the magnificent Rowley Shoals.
Clerke Reef
This morning we’ll arrive at the glorious Clerke Reef to discover it’s huge lagoon and extensive outer reef. Guided by our expert crew, snorkelers and divers will be able to explore the crystal-clear waters willed with spectacular clouds of fish and corals, and beachcombers can explore Bedwell Island. Fishers will also be able to catch and release in the lagoon using eco-friendly tackle. Only to finish the night with the delights of the galley and your first spectacular Rowley sunset.
Nature's Aquarium
Start today with a visit to a spectacular spot to rival the Great Barrier reef - the Aquarium. The water is only waist deep however the experience is truly once-ina- lifetime. Discover brilliantly coloured corals, giant clams and more than 600 of the world’s most beautiful fish species call this place home. After lunch, we’ll change gears for a high-speed snorkel drift through the outer reef guided by our expert crew members. Followed by an anchorage in the swimming pool like waters of Clerke Lagoon.
Close Encounters
Wake up to another day in paradise and experience the thrill of snorkeling on the outer reef. With it’s breathtaking sheer coral walls, it’s home to humpback whales, manta rays and sailfish. Finish the day with sunset drinks on the beach and one of our famous Island Parties. Only to see out another perfect night back on True North in Clerke Lagoon with 360° stars reflected in a glassy ocean.
The Outer Reef
Today we’ll spend the entire day exploring the outer reef of this remote and untouched wilderness. Then it’s time for our overnight steam to Broome and to watch the Rowleys merge into a blazing western sky. Join the crew at the Captain’s Party before what we’ll guarantee as the best sleep of your life.
Transfer to Broome
Early morning arrival in Broome in time to disembark and transfer to the airport or your accommodation.

The route, the scenery, the combination of boating, boat excursions and heli-flights – all along with the most amazing scenery, hardly any other tourists, the beautiful boat, the amazing lovely knowledgeable crew and the great group of guests – it was almost too much to take in – all of my senses awakened and my heart and soul took in all this beauty and experiences – a once in a lifetime trip!

Never seen the Kimberley Coast before, True North made it possible to access remote passages and fiords of the remote western Australian coast line. The on board helicopter was a seamless transport to see the Kimberley coast from above and gave a complete magnification of the journey, as well as permitting access to the remote indigenous cave art consented by local indigenous communities. The Montgomery Reef over 100 kms long is a powerful natural wonder that rises from the sea as the 11 metre tide drops. Both at water level at the Cruise ship and from the helicopter this amazing sight will be my highlight along with the major waterfalls enroute which we encounter as a cooling natural rainfall in the 30 degree daytime. The compact cruise ship True North boasted hotel room comfort. Food was restaurant quality embellished by the catch of the day. I loved the spacious lounge and forward deck. Finally, the major stand out was the genuine staff service culture and friendliness, I think very hard to beat. A genuinely unique experience. Highly recommended.
